Reason for Hope
Mental Illness can be Effectively Treated…and Even Prevented.
The good news? Treatment works. There are many effective treatments that allow the vast majority of people with mental health conditions to recover and lead productive lives.

Treatment for most mental illnesses is highly effective when compared to treatment for other chronic medical conditions.
The earlier someone is diagnosed and receives treatment, the better their outcome will be. Early intervention in people who experience psychosis has been proven to result in higher levels of general functioning, quality of life, and employment; and substantially reduced hospitalizations and cost of care.

in hospitalizations for onset of psychosis in a pilot project to identify at-risk youth and intervene early to prevent psychosis.

Supporting people after hospitalization improves health and quality of life while reducing readmissions and costs. Returning to stability after a mental crisis requires more than psychiatric treatment. People need support: a place to live, work and a sense of community. Programs like peer support, clubhouses and supported employment help people recover and return to productive life.
